Games That Weren't (A Cryptogameologist's Dream!) [1]
Whether planned, promised, abandoned, rumoured or simply indefinitely postponed, there are seemingly a glut of games on the ST that remain as elusive as the mysterious Big Foot or Yeti. Here at Guardians we seek to 'explode the myth' and uncover the truth behind these mysteries. Whatever happened to Monkey Island 2: LeChucks Revenge?, did Indiana Jones ever find the Lost City of Atlantis (oh the irony!) and did Pogo ever a-go-go on the ST? Hopefully, we can now shed some light on these matters, as in order to *preserve* we must not only know what was but what wasn't! (if you follow the logic). 'The Truth Is Out There!' So here we are then, the unreleased list of games that never made it... Games that due to misinformation, disinformation, unforseen development hitches, fatal production delays, and perpetual development hell were doomed never to make an appearance on our beloved ST. Quite simply, we present the 'GameS That weren't'... Notes:
|
|
| Gauntlet: The Deeper Dungeons | Advertised |
| (Mis)Advertised as being available as part of U.S. Gold's promotional campaign. | |
| Indiana Jones and The Fate Of Atlantis (Adventure Game) | Promised |
| Dropped because US Gold said it could not be done and Amiga games were outselling ST games by 5:1. | |
| Indigo | Complete but never released |
| The existence of this game first came to light in 2003 when the original programmer, Stéphane Belin, was contacted by Mike Clarke a fellow ex Psygnosis member. Mike had done the music for the game was eager to know if the game still existed. He promptly posted the news on an Amiga forum that Stéphane still had the game! | |
| It Came From The Desert | Promised |
| Cinemaware repeatedly indicated an ST release would be forthcoming - but it never materialised. | |
| Jaguar XJ220 | Advertised |
| Advertised by Core and previewed in some magazines but unfortunately never released. | |
| Lamborghini World Challenge | Featured on magazine |
| Featured on ST Format issue 48. | |
| Q8 Team World Rally Simulation, The | Featured on magazine |
| This polygon-based rally-sim for ST from Thalamus was featured in Games Machine 31 with full page story. The road however went nowhere. | |
| Restrictor | Featured on magazine |
| A Games Machine issue 31 had a preview for this flight/racing game, after few months it was put on hold | |
| Rim Runner | Advertised & Reviewed |
| Heavily advertised by Palace and even reviewed by some magazines. It's none appearance one of the most baffling in ST history. | |
| Secret of Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge | Promised |
| Despite fan pressure and a demo by Paul "Winston" Bates showing that the screens could be recreated on an Atari STE, Lucas Arts never made this sequel. | |
| Titan Find | Demo Released |
| A demo of the Delta 4 adventure game Titan Find was released, but the full game failed to follow. | |
