| Software Notes |
| Game origins | Hard Drivin' arcadegame was originally written by Atari Games in 1989. It was the first "real" driving simulation featuring manual 4-speed + reverse gearstick, clutch and a force feedback steeringwheel. The original graphicshardware ran on 7MHz 68010, 2x50MHz TMS34010 and 50MHz TMS34012 processors. What made it impressive at the time was the fact that the 3D routines were all software rendered without any 3D-cards.
If you want to check out the original arcade-version, you can find it from Midway Arcade Treasures 3 -compilation for XBox and PlayStation 2.

| Trivia | If you manage to get over 10 minutes extratime, you have unlimited time to use. This allows you for example to drive the track wrong way as long as you want.
|
| Additional Notes | Track Disks If you read all text from intro-screen, you will notice a line about soon to be released track disks. Trackdisks never happened but they eventually became a full sequel called Hard Drivin II - Drive harder with extra tracks, a track editor and improved 3D-engine.
Arcade version comparison Even if the Atari ST -version of Hard Drivin' does the conversion job technically quite well, there are a few differences that didn't made it. (Arcade version left, ST version right)
Cockpit graphics are missing the A-post and a rearview mirror.
The title screen shows a railroad in the map graphics, but it's missing from the game. In original arcade-version train travels through the track where the most crucial place to cross is the finishline.
Bugs
Even if the 3D-routines are quite fast compared to other 3D-driving games on ST, programmers probably had to cut some corners to gain speed. There are some bugs that made the game very famous like houses without roofs, flying cars, and objects you can see through the bridges and hills. Most of these problems were fixed in Hard Drivin II - Drive Harder.
