Origins	This officially licensed title was based on the 1989 film 'Batman' which starred Michael Keaton as the Caped Crusader and Jack Nicholson as his arch nemesis 'The Joker'.  Each of the 5 levels of the game are based upon instantly recogniseable scenes taken from the film.
From The Box	BATMAN is a shadow in the darkness, as elusive as a dream.  High above the seamy streets of GOTHAM, he is a criminal's nightmare.  The only hope for a desperate city... BATMAN A LEGEND HAS RETURNED
Backstory	BATMAN A LEGEND HAS RETURNED. BRUCE WAYNE, the multi-millionaire head of the Wayne Foundation is an unassuming, quiet type of guy.  However, when night falls and evil stalks the streets, he sheds his daytime persona and becomes the masked vigilante of GOTHAM CITY - BATMAN. Crusading against crime from the rooftops of the sickened city, his objective becomes the elimination of Gus Grissom's criminal empire; in particular the conquest of JACK NAPIER, the psychotic second-in-command.  Napier was the most cunning and sadistic force in Gotham anyway, but when an accident befell him, twisting him both physically and mentally, he became the ultimate criminal - THE JOKER. You control BATMAN in five different scenarios as he is pitted against the malevolent nemesis in the life or death struggles that ensue. THE ULTIMATE MOVIE INSPIRES THE ULTIMATE GAME... PLAY BATMAN.
Version Notes	Free Sticker This, the original retail version of Batman The Movie came with a free Batman sticker in the box. Missing Splash Screen For some unknown reason, the game splash screen which appears during the initial loading process of the game is missing from this release!  It appeared on all other subsequent releases however. BUGGED! The Danger Zone! There appears to be a serious bug on the final level (set at Gotham City Cathedral) in this version of the game! Bizarrely, when you die about halfway through this level, you restart the game outwith the gameplay area - i.e. outside the Cathedral!  From thereon, there appears to be little that can be done except to abort the game or reboot! Thankfully, this bug appears to have been fixed in subsequent versions.  Note: the precise problem lies between level restart points 2 & 3 (restart points are the locations you restart the level from should you die).  Die between them, and instead of restarting the game at point 2 you materialise outwith the building! (RIGHT) If you're unlucky enough to die in the red zone, then it's goodnight Vienna.  Get ready to reboot!! (BELOW) (1) Outwith the Cathedral, Batman plummets uncontrollably downwards. (2) Finally, stuck on a ledge.  But where to now?
